Jessika + Martin : Vancouver Wedding Photographer

Wow how did I never post these to my blog yet!?

In September of 2018 Jessica and Martin graciously flew me out to Vancouver so we could create these beautiful portraits! I met these two in the spring of that year and we did an engagement shoot but they had already booked a wedding photographer, so I came back in the fall, they got dressed up again, and we made these!

I actually love sessions like this. It’s not “trash the dress” but it allows you to take wedding portraits in awesome locations that you might not have been able to on your wedding day, either because the locations are too far from the venues, or because they are more adventurous to get to, or because you don’t want to risk getting your dress wet on your wedding day. Another reason to do these is because the best time of day to shoot is around sunset. On your wedding day, most of your photos are generally taken in the middle of the afternoon, and while you can still make beautiful portraits at any time of day, you can’t get that glowing sunset lighting unless you can get out for sunset photos. I always make sure my couples make time for this on their wedding day anyway, but many venues don’t provide an easily accessible sunset spot, so doing a post-wedding session like this is a great idea if photos like this are important to you and you want to check out some unique locations and make sure you get good weather!

For these wedding photos we went to Porteau Cove, which is near Squamish, BC, and to Cleveland Dam. It was almost pitch black by the time we finished at Porteau Cove but I like the moodiness of the last images too!

What do you think? Should I make post-wedding portrait sessions an add-on option?!
